Zalavár, benedictine abbey
The St. Adrian Benedictine abbey of Zalavár, founded by Saint Stephen and consecrated in 1019, have been built on Zalavár-Várhegy, in the place of an earlier church of Our Lady from the 9th century, often associated with prince Priwina. The only existing pictorial representation of the church of the abbey is a 16th century survey made by Giulio Turco. An image of the church can be reconstructed based on the remaining stone carvings, mainly fragments of the liturgical furnishing, as well as floor tiles.
