Pannonhalma, Benedictine abbey

The foundation of the Benedictine abbey of Pannonhalma was initiated by Grand Prince Géza, but the completion of the St. Martin church and the monastery can be connected to the donations of St. Stephen at the beginning of his reign (1003). A reconstruction of the church took place in 1137, under the reign of Béla II due to a fire that has probably only damaged the roof. Much more largescale was the rebuilding around 1210-20, under the abbacy of Uros, once again repairing the monastery from a fire damage. According to the written sources, the standing remains and several stone fragments, this construction have been extended to not only the church, but the cloister and the wings of the monastery as well.
