Dömös, Prépostság
The buildings of the Premonstratensian monastery of Zsámbék are first mentioned in the written sources in 1234. The founders of the church were members of the Aynard family, who migrated to Hungary before 1258. Their first generations could have already been buried here. Archeological findings confirm the existence of a much smaller rural church at the location of the present one. The building type and the stylistic context of the ornaments could allow a more exact dating. King Matthias donated the monastery to the Pauline Fathers in 1477, who have later renovated the church in late Gothic style.
